Machu Picchu above sea level
This might be complicated because all the following may be known as “Machu Picchu”, therefore I’ll play the role of unambiguous.
Machu Picchu could be the popular Inca city, abandoned and now ruins that you can visit as an element of a nationwide park. To get indeed there, you generally speaking show up by train to an inhabited Peruvian town labeled as Aguas Calientes (also called Machu Picchu Pueblo). In addition, the complete site is termed for a mountain also called Machu Picchu — Montaña Machu Picchu, become unambiguous — which you can rise when inside the park.
As Much site visitors do, we arrived by train into Aguas Calientes, after that took the coach as much as Machu Picchu itself, then climbed Montaña Machu Picchu. I do want to know the beginning and closing elevations of the climb, but can’t get a hold of a great source of information on this.
Note that whenever you’re indeed there, it's apparent that Machu Picchu is very easily a hundred or so yards above Aguas Calientes, and Montaña Machu Picchu is easily a few hundred meters above that.
However, when I begin internet looking to find the elevations of Machu Picchu (the Inca town) and Moñtana Machu Picchu (the hill towering above all this), we discover lots of inconsistent data; incorporating neighborhood sources and guidebooks because of the top few Bing hits for “elevation Machu Picchu” and “altitude Machu Picchu”:
So, no coherent response. Wow. This can’t really be that difficult to respond to nowadays. Today I wish I’d taken a GPS unit around and assessed this myself!
